Hello 🙂 I’m Chelz! I am an anthropologist, professor, mother, and writer. I teach about culture, power, survival, community, and care.. but mostly, I try to live what I teach.
My work is rooted in grief, love, resistance, and making something meaningful out of everyday life. I care about my students, our environment, my community, tenderness, and all of the ways we both build and break this world.
I find it hard to remain rooted in one identity and find comfort in shifting, changing, and growing. I try to carry revolution on my shoulders and carve out small pockets of care and rebellion in a world that often feels too difficult to move through.
In creating these pockets, I make space to ask questions we are afraid to ask, to share stories we are ashamed to share, and to give love we didn’t know we were capable of.
Outside of my work, I find meaning in working with my hands. I am so grateful to take care of a small piece land that I acknowledge as Haudenosaunee land. I tend to my garden, act silly with my child, and spend time on finding the small joys in life, like a perfect cup of coffee 😉
